I am picking up my Elddis XL1000 typhoon 1994 caravan next week and they say the keys to out side doors to the loo and battery lockers are missing but can open with a screw driver, is it possible to fit new locks or clasp and lock?

I did expect to do some maintenance on the van but missed this when viewing.

Reg.

If you can get the number for the lock then a dealer should be able to supply the keys you want.

Does the door key not fit any of the lockers?

Why bother spending money on replacement keys if a screwdriver already opens the locks? Just carry a screwdriver. I would suggest replacing the locks (if possible) such that you are the only person to open your lockers and not Joe Bloggs with his screwdriver.

We have a 2001 Elddis and the toilet & battery boxes open with the same key as the entrance door. The only door that opens with a different key is the gas locker. Would it be normal for a caravan to have 3 different keys?

Hopefully I will be able to use the door key or a screw driver and the gas compartment has a pad lock fitted.

I do not pick it up till this Tuesday A.M. wish me luck driving it home for the first time of towing.

Thanks for all the letters I will have a good look round it when home.

Mags & Alan, is your van the same as mine XL1000 and if so can you tell me anything I can look out for.

I haven't a clue what the electric panel is about and dose it have a water pump?

Ours is a hurricane GT. Assuming you get the 'instruction book' with it, there are diagrams of all the different control panel layouts which are in the different models. We were completely new to caravaning when we bought ours last year and when the dealer did the hand over, he showed us how to work everything. This information went straight out of our heads as soon as we left the dealers premises lol. So we set off on our first weekend away completely clueless. The book came in very handy, i was reading that instead of the novel id taken.

As regards the water pump, ours is a Carver. One end plugs into the connection on the outside of the van and the other dangles in the water container. The switch to turn it on is on the control panel.

Good luck with your new van and your new hobby, I hope you take to it as well as we have.

We love our Elddis, we always feel at home in her and when the time comes to upgrade, we will probably look at another Elddis first.

Thanks for help, the van is just great, just some small jobs to do like shampoo the carpet, bye a water pump, wash outside of van, but most important job is to name her.

I have fathomed out the electrics, but got to try out the gas.

It was a bit scary driving it home for the first time, we changed drivers and my wife Pat did about 20 miles with no problems.

We are going to sleep in it over night soon maybe next week.

We both love it, best thing we have ever done for over 40 years of being married.
