We have been away for a long weekend to Newby Bridge in the lakes,we really liked the site and they had seasonal touring pitches for £1000+vat this got us thinking of maybe sighting the van next season for a year, not necessarily at this site.we are a family of four with one child age 3 and one age 10,my wife has to work from midday Sunday so we would have to go in two cars(not very good for our carbon footprint!!).I know the idea of having a touring caravan is to tour but it might make a change to site for 1year.

Does anyone have any pros and cons on this and any recomendations within 60miles from Wigan Lancashire area.

Look forward to hearing all your views,

Regards,

Andrew,Nicola+family.

Hi Andrew,

We had a couple of nights last week at Englethwaite Hall in Cumbria a CC site. They have half a dozen seasonal pitches I think they are open March to November. We are looking at using a seasonal pitch as a secure storage site for our van whilst not in use, near to home in Aberdeen. For us it would reduce the tow time down to England, with the van set up ready for when we arrive, then after a couple of days we could move down to say Ross on Wye or similar for a couple of weeks. Before going back to Cumbria re sighting the van,and then returnng to Aberdeen.

Hi Andrew

We bought our first caravan last year and though it's only tiny I wasn't overyly comfortable with towing it so we decided to give it a go on a seasonal pitch. My husband hasn't enjoyed it as much as the rest of us but thats more to do with general caravanning annoyances like others having radios on loud and late. The kids and I have had a super time. Don't know about disadvantages other than the obvious lack of variety but advantages as follows: No towing required; already set up and ready for you; no need to take down awning between visits; but best of all the kids get to meet and play with other kids that they've met on the site before.

Friends of ours have (or had) a seasonal pitch at Skelwith Fold in the Lake District, which is a lovely site - and a great location.

In reply to Sammie's comments, although I agree with the 'good points' that are being made, in response to the children having others to play with, this is why we do rallies. The same group of people go each time and everybody knows eachother (Adults and Children alike) and as we are all members of the CC, we all abide by the rules in regards to radios and noise late at night and we still get to visit different sites, which is why we have a tourer and not a static,

best regards, Martin

Response better late than never! We bought a tourer and sited it a few years ago and it's the best thing we ever did! We too live in the Wigan area and our site is in the Eden Valley just 1.5hrs away. My huband and I finish work on Friday at 4pm and we are at site, sitting down with a glass of wine by 7pm at the latest. Our children have loads of friends that are also on site at the same time as their parents also do the same as us or are in statics. We go 12 months of the year whatever the weather(and are already planning our New Year's Eve get together with loads of tourer/static friends in the site restaurant!). We still go touring from time to time (and have already booked 2 weeks in Devon next year) but we don't have the hassle of setting up late on a Friday in the dark (after the hassle of getting the van out of storage as we can't keep at home) and having to be off site early Sunday morning. If it's a nice day in the summer, we chill out with friends, have a bbq, and leave site Sunday evening having not felt like the weekend has been stolen from us - utter bliss!!!
