Site between Carcassonne and Perpignan

Looking for a small site anywhere between these two towns want to stay for four nights on our way to spain. No children just the wife and I.Although the wife would like a swimming pool but not essential.Thank you in anticipation.

When are you travelling? In winter, low season, or high season? This makes all the difference to recommendations for sites, I think. Lots of French sites, particularly the smaller ones, have very short opening dates. Give us an idea of your plans.

Or, have a look at the www.campingcheque.co.uk, or www.campingcard.com websites. Both have maps where you can find sites, and have a look at the facilities and the opening dates. Both schemes will cost you no more than 15 euros per night for a pitch, car and caravan, awning, electricity, and two people (plus a dog if you have one). Some ACSI sites are as little as 11 euros.

As Val says, it rather depends when you are travelling. However, several years ago we stopped for 10 days or so at the municipal (La Pinede) at Lezignac Corbieres. We were touring the area and found it a good base, but there twere lots of overnighters on their way to and from Spain. The site is adjacent to the municipal swimming baths and tennis courts and there is a pleasant restaurant within a very short walk. The town is also within easy walking distance. Parts of the site are quite open, but the older bit is good and shady. Details will be in the CC Club "Bible".

yes would help my apologies we are travelling early July looked on camping cheques and camping card just though someone may come up with a gem I missed.thanks

Would confirm the comments from Jo. The municipal site at Lezignac Corbieres is good, but basic. A she mentions it it right beside the swimming pool and in the heat that is very welcome. (remember no shorts though). Tennis courts are also adjacent. As with many sites take a compass and figure out the route of the sun so you can park against the shady side of the pitch. Watch out as some are in full sun all day. The pitches are all gravel hardstanding. The site restaurant is also popular especially at weekends for good but again basic food. While there we took the train into Carcassonne and the station there is right beside the town centre, but admittedly a good walk to the old town if that is your wish. We just sat on the canal bank and ate icecream and watched the boats.

Camping La Figurotta listed under Narbonne in the CC Handbook is open all year and is quiet and very pleasnat for a few days. An excellent night stop en route to Spain. As described, the the two dutchmen who run it are friendly and very helpful. I arrived after dark on one visit and they could not have been more helpful in seeing me pitched amongst the trees.

Phil.
