With one of our Children having a slight physical disability we have often struggled to find an activity that we can all do together, at the age of 10 she still needs stabilisers on her bike that restricts where she can go and leaves her feeling very self concious of others looking at a 10yr old that still has stabilisers. However!, last weekend we hired a tandem mountain bike at Dalby Forest with significant success, Anna joined the rest of us on a 2hr bike ride on forest trails and didn't leave me to do all the work!.

We have long considered taking the caravan to France, somewhere central or atlantic coast/Aquitaine ideally where you can get on the bikes and ride from the site, (the kids say a swimming pool would be good as well!).

Any suggestions?

Gary.

We go every year to Camping le Bohat in southern Brittany

Its about 150 easy miles from Roscoff/St Malo give or take a bit

The site is very well equipped and caters for all ages with new indoor/outdoor swimming pool

If you have the C & CC continental holiday brochure you can see my pic of the pool!!!

As you leave the site there are extensive cyle routes in both directions and even a cycle route brdge underpass below the main road to get to the town of Sarzeau

The site owner and his wife are Dutch and speak excellent English

They are hands on and very willing to help

Last year they lent a fridge to one caravanner whose unit had failed

Hi Gary,

I can recommend Camping Bonne Anse Plage at La Palmyre (Royan). It's a few years since we were last there but used to be great. There are miles of cycle trails and a fantastic swimming pool complex. Also there is the world famous La Palmyre Zoo which the kids will love. The campsite has great facilities and right next to the beach. Check out the website www.siblu.com/france/charente_maritime/bonne_anse_plage.php

Hope you enjoy.

I can recomend the Ile de Re just off La Rochelle via the toll bridge. Its flat, pretty and there are 100km of paved off road cycle tracks. From where we stay near La Couarde in the centre of the island it is possible to visit the entire island without using roads apart from just one or two places in the villages. The same goes for shopping so we park up when we arrive and rarely move the car.

Thanks for the replies, we have booked Camping La Bohat from the 10th August but want to stay near St malo for 2/3/4 days on the return journey as our crossing is mid morning, any suggestions where to stay, things to do?.

I stayed at Dinard when I was 12 with school, on the scool trip the next year (that I missed) some of the boys discovered the awesome French fireworks, finger sized bangers that could blow a finger off!, throwing them onto the roof of the building next door to the hotel was not the brightest idea in the first place but it was also the police station!!!!, I still remember their account of being faced with armed police at the door and Knobby left leg's (our French teacher) attempts at keeping his charges out of prison. How I envy those young enough to be that stupid!!.
