We are looking for touring sites in Southern brittany (Carnac or La Baule areas) in August this year. Can anyone recommend somewhere. We have young children and want somewhere fairly peaceful.

Thanks

Not quite southern Brittany but we stayed at Camp De Letty in Benodet. beautiful site virtually on the beach. Short walk along the coastal path to town centre. Very clean site and district and very peaceful although beach was nice with few pleasure entertainment for children, swings, etc. Thoroughly recommend the site and area. Sailed Plymouth to Roskoff and approx. two hour drive via Quimper. Try Select Sites of Abergaveny - www.selectsites.co.uk - very helpful and excellent holiday calalouge. Good luck and enjoy your holiday.

Went to Raguenez plage near Nevez last year, quiet with direct beach access, not much around in walking distance, but a good clean site, and safe for the kids to bike round etc, ask for a pitch away from the reception as there are occasional open air discos until midnight.

For the last four years we have stayed at Moulin de Kermaux, the site is about a five minute drive from Carnac. The site is great for small children as it is not too big. There is a baby pool, pool and slide also there is a small bar which closes at 11.00p.m, so no late night noise. We are not staying there this year as our son is now 8 and needs a bit more space and freedom. http://www.camping-moulinkermaux.com

We stayed at a Castels site last August about 1/2 hrs drive from La Baule. It was an excellent site, as are all Castels sites, the one in Quimper has to be seen to be believed with all the palm trees everywhere. As with all Castels sites there is a Chateau in the grounds, indoor/outdoor pool, superb facilites, excellent playground equipment. This site http://www.camping-le-deffay.com/ is wooded with a lake for boating/fishing (my 8 yr old caught his first fish!) and is in very quite surroundings. There is also a small shop, restuarant and a kids creche. There is no evening entertainment so it is nothing like a haven holiday if that is your thing. There was a mix of people from all over Europe, our neighbours were french, italian and swiss so it had a nice international feel about it. Any Castel site I would highly recommend, also try http://www.campingsaintebrigitte.com which is very close to La Baule but we didn't use it as it was fully booked all summer! We also stayed at Carnac but found the sites there a bit too British, a la butlins, so we only stayed two nights, then went to Quimper ......... stayed a week just a wonderful place, I would miss Carnac and go to Quimper!

This is a lovely site - away from it all - 10 min pleasant walk through a field from gorgeous beach and a lovely pool for little ones - we have been four times and it is one of our favourites. Also like La Trinite plage - right on beach - this is good as it is a short cycle away from town with market etc.
