Hello my wife keeps on at me to go to the Isle of Whight. Any ideas of sites good for children and has either a bar or a club house preferably nearish a beach. We are not bothered where in the island to stay. Although we like sites for families and plenty to do in the evening ie a bar!!!! we dont like these massive sites with statics everywhere. You have to get things just right dont you. Ant ideas good or bad would help us decide, many thanks

Hi Richard, Last year we stayed at Appuldurcombe Gardens in Wroxall near Shanklin / Ventnor. Lovely family orientated site on the edge of the village but adjacent to open countryside and only 3 miles from the beach at Shanklin. It has a bar, some low key entertainment, a small shop and an outdoor pool which the kids loved. We enjoyed our stay there and would definately go back. They have a website which you should be able to find by seaching on Appuldurcombe Gardens. Whether you stay there or not, the Isle of Wight is great for a family holiday. Pls note - it's usually far cheaper to book the ferry with the accommodation. Have a good holiday. Ken

Richard,

We stayed on the CC site "the Orchards" great site, indoor + outdoor pool, fully serviced pitches, no club but has a small cafe by the indoor pool. Large field for ball games + playground + indoor games room with three pool tables. In a quite part of the wight with great views across a valley, beaches 15 mins drive.

Hi we went to C & CC site in 2003. We liked the site and where it is. We were able to walk into Sandown from site, across fields etc. Near to off road cycle route to Ryde (I think). Our son and his friend cycled there. The pool is small but nice for cooling off or children.

We'd reccomend a visit to the Garlic Festival held each year in August. Check the dates on the Isle of Wight website. Always lots to do on the island for adults and children. We were there in the heatwave, and were able to find places to visit that were cooler. The Wightline ferry was good with our dog. On boarding they imediately brought bowls of water to the top deck.

Hi, me again, regarding isle of wight c&cc site, was there any hardstandings? If so, was the hardstanding ok or like hardcore thrown down anywhere like the Weston Super Mare club site we have just returned from and how were the toilets/showers etc? We site our van at Kingsbury water park and have been spoilt with the under floor heating in shower block. Nothing seems to compare, but we want to give the kids a bit of variety.
