Sites on route to Madrid

We will be driving through france to madrid mid august time. I am happy with france ie campsite in every village but fairly new to Spain. I hear that campsites are few and far between.

My question therefore is has anyone any info on overnight sites to Madrid and can anyone recommend any sites in the Madrid area.

All help much appreciated

David

In 2006 we went to Spain with Caravan and stopped at the followng sites.

1. Camping Du Futor, Avanton - France.

2. Over the border into Spain by the sea. Camping Orio off the A 8 motorway onto N-634. Web www.orior.com

3. Camping Alpha S.L just South of Madrid. They should all be in the Caravan Club Europe 1.

The last site was good for one night.

4. Cabopino Camping near Marbella.

Onthe whole w did not find the sites in Spain all that good for even 3 or 4 star. Nothing to compare with Germany and Austria anyway.

Hope this may help you.

If you are going to Madrid from the French border at Hendaye you probably wont need an intermediate stop. We regularly stay at Camping Larrouleta (under St Jean de Luz in CC book)before entering Spain and have found it reasonable to reach Camping Picos de la Miel at La Cabrera 50km north of Madrid. The road is very good and quiet (when we travel in May)If thats a bit far for you there is a site in the book under Aranda de Duero that is about half way between Burgos and Madrid but we have not used it.

The site at Aranda is to the north of the town and easy access from the autovia. Soil is sandy with many pine trees. Limited facilities low season. Some road noise.

Sites which I've used previously on the N1 and N1V through Madrid is the site already mentioned at La Cabrera. It's very close to the Autoroute at KM57. Lots of permanent vans on site so very quiet during the week but noisy at weekends. Also I've stayed at Camping El Desfiladero in Pancorbo, near Burgos. 48Kms south of Madrid, the site at Aranjuez is good and very handy for a visit to the Royal Palace.
