Sites with fishing

Does anyone know of any good sites with fishing on site, we've been to a few but could do with some more variety, most seem to have them within 3 miles but prefer on site.

We live in Winsford near crewe and usually travel within about an hour of home. Doesn't seem to be many on the caravan club web site.

martin, look at www.touringandtenting.com and select campsites. The ones with fishing are listed under england, Scotland and wales.

I know this is more than an hour of Crewe (OK several hours), we used to visit a site near Downham Market where you could park your outfit right beside the lake and fish from your pitch. This was over 10 years ago and unfortunatley the name and exact location evades me.

I know it's a bit more than 1 hour but Lucksall Caravan Park, Mordiford, Hereford has the River Wye running right alongside it. You can buy a permit at reception.

Joby, who sometimes posts on the forum is the one to say how good it is but in the past he's told me he's caught a lot of good sized barbel.

From my fishing days I've caught chub to 5lbs, dace, roach, grayling, gudgeon, pike, and perch. The occasional trout and even carp can be caught and I understand in the slower deeper reaches bream are becoming more common.

If you do decide to go ask for a pitch alongside the river and if you are lucky you can fish from a few yards behind your van.

There is another local ssite called the Millpond.

Someone earlier this year went after I told them and they said it was excellent and would definitely go again. I recall he said the only minus was no onsite shop.

Try Crab Mill Farm, its a Caravan Club CL just outside Chester - actually comes under Hawarden, Flintshire.

We stayed August Bank Holiday for a week, the site has 2 fishing ponds, although 1 is closed at the moment due to polution or something from the fields - they have cows!!
