Siting Caravan

hi, i read a post in another thread where someone gives advice on making sure to pull the caravan forward a bit after reversing onto your pitch, says this stops the brakes binding, anyone else do this when parking up on site ?.

Yes Highlander,it's a good habit to adopt. When you are reversing your tow hitch is being pushed back and the overrun operates and frees the brakes.

If you forget to pull forward for a couple of inches your brakes might stay off and if you are on a sloping pitch you could end up chasing after your caravan down a hill.

By inching forward your caravan will be much easier to unhitch from your towcar ( especially when you've had a posh new AlKo hitch stabiliser fitted) and the handbrake will operate normally.

Also if you use levelling ramps to level up one side of your caravan it's best to drive forward over them rather than reverse up them for the same reasons.

yes i put a post on about it a wile back i watched a friend try to un hitch is new van for the first time ,i watched with a grin for ten mins but stepped in when he whent to his garage to get a jemmy bar.
