I would like to buy a sunncamp Prestige awning for my van which measures 979cm the awning sizes go 950-975 or 975-1000, will i get away with the smaller one as the large one will be to loose, or do i just need to try and peg down the extra fabric of the larger one?

any help would be greatfull.

Matt, I would assume the smaller one is the one to go for if my thinking is correct and the reason being is that on my last van our awning was an in-between size just like yours is and we were advised to go for the bigger one and as luck would have it, it would not fit properly. Our mud skirt was right down and could barely be seen on the ends whereas if we had the smaller one we would have more mud skirt showing and the awning would have looked the right size for the van.

Choosing the correct awning size:

To find the size of awning you require, measure your caravan from the ground up, over and back to the ground . This ground-to-ground measurement is used to determine which awning size is needed.

Have you measured the actual caravan as above?

If you need to use levelling blocks on the awning side the smaller size could be too small

You can pull the excess fabric out to the sides to some extent but the best person to advise is the awning dealer as he will know the sizing of different makes.(some are tighter than others just as some size 36 trousers etc vary from maker to maker)

on measuring it it is closer to 978, i phoned sunncamp (sunflair) and spoke to the tech guy hoping to get a answer like other awning manufactures in that they do 14cm above and below the size but the guy didnt know which one would be best he said you would have to try them both!

I have a Swift Sprite major 6 and a friend of mine has a swift Charisma 570 which a have not seen yet but i think that it is the same van although the swift website shows different awning sizes. (they use the smaller 975 max awning).

This size thing can be a problem it seems, because we made enquiries about a new awning for our new van and the dealer said although there is a recommended size in the caravan brochure it is not 100% it will be correct for every van of that model. They said they would give us the measuring tool they use and we were to do it ourselves because they will not be held responsible for an ill fitting awning and there have been awnings ordered as per brochure that did not fit properly either ( now where have I heard that before).
