My local techniclal school has closed, the pupils transfering to a nearby school. Recently a sign, about 20ft x 14ft, has appeared at the old school site saying "site aquiried for housing". I don't profess to be good at spelling but my business is not advertising signs. If it was I would make sure I spelt words correctly. Seems to me they should knock houses down to build more schools where spelling is taught.

What frustrates me is the misuse of the apostrophe, how many times to we see "potato's", "carrot's". I wonder what exactly it is they are selling that belongs to the potato or the carrot..?? It seems to be "if in doubt, chuck one in",drives me mad.

This one irritates me:

'puppy's' - people seem to use it a lot these days in particular in adverts such as:

'puppy's for sale'

'Potatoe' Valerie......... LOL!! (that's another one which annoyes me)

I don't disagree that people should be taught correctly and use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. To a certain extent it could be argued that with spelling checkers etc nothing written via a computer should ever be wrong nowadays.

But spare a thought for people like me, I always had terrible trouble spelling, still do. I can't remember anyone teaching me about single or double apostrophise. Perhaps my teachers were just happy that I managed to get the spelling right without complicating things.

Hope I don't have to start applying for jobs because applications will really find me out.
