Hi all, we are considering buying a satelite system for our caravan, any help would be greatly appreciated!

We would like to buy a new slimline box (rather than take the one from home) and like the look of the Multimo dish!(because it is particularly small).

Can we take the viewing card from our box at home and put it in a new box in the caravan?

Any help and suggestions appreciated!

Thank you, Andrew & Sally.

Andrew,

you can't use your card from your home system in another box without letting Sky know & then they will "re-register" your card to your new box.

Best thing you can do is check out this site, it should answer any questions you may have.

Hi Andrew and Sally

We bought a box from ebay and have got a card from easyskytv.com

If your card at home has to be connected to a telephone line you will need to get an additional one like us.

If you are using it abroad the pace 2000 or pace 430dn are the best. You can buy them on ebay for about

Don't forget that one can receive quite a number of free-to-view channels without a Sky subscription. If these serve your needs adequately, you can save yourself a lot of money.

I think that once a card is activated it will work OK in any box.

JF a card will only receive the full package you are paying for in one box otherwise people could just take the card to a friend's house to watch movies/sport etc as you could do with analogue Sky.

With Sky multi room you have a different card for the various boxes and swapped cards will not work.

The card will allow Freeview to be watched on another box and for some strange reason it will also allow Eurosport to be viewed in another digi box as well.

We take our Sky+ box and have for years taken the Sky boxes both digital and analogue with no problems from Sky yet

But you are not supposed to take the boxes away from the phone line for the first 12 months and if on multi room for ever.

I have read of people receiving warning letters from Sky when the box has been disconnected from the phone line and unable to make the monthly call back to Sky.

Lots of people do do it though

Using a box only (no card) you get the FTV (free to view) channels

With any card and any box you get the FTA (free to air) channels - this will give you 1-2-3-4-5 all the news programs (?), SSports news and a load of watchable channels, (gold, bravo etc etc) as well as most of the c**p ones

With a subscription card and the box it's matched to, you get all the premium channels you are subscribed to as well as the above

You aren't supposed to take the Card - box etc out of UK but many do, We receive the channels we subscribe to and what is handy abroad is that radio channels which are digital and you can get your regional local news via BBC news most times (it's supposed to be linked to your postcode at the address the card is registered)- dependent on where you are and dish size of course

Well put GP

You can get 1,2,3 with no card and BBC regions can be set via the "Favourites" on the blue button.

What is annoying is that Sky set the ITV channel that they think you should have via the postcode and ours is set to Granada when we prefer Central for local news.

Central is available via "Other Channels" but you can not have it on the blue favourites button (so have to go via menus every time)or rewind/record on Sky+.

Sky are not interested in feed back regarding the setting of ITV !!

Contrary to what people say you can use the card from home in your Sky box and it will work but you will only be able to get the basic Sky subscription family pack. If you want the movies etc you have to phone them and give them details of your box and they will then switch on all the channels however when you go home it is back to square one again.

Why buy a new box and maybe get locked into a contract when you can buy a good second hand boz for well under a
