Hi all, I put a post here recently about using one of those annexes that hang in the awning and they didn't seem to be that popular. The annexe for our Inaca awning is around £250 and I don't want to pay that much. I have seen that Riversway Leisure have a universal annexe, says it fits 99% of awnings. Has anyone used one of these and how good are they. At about £80 its a lot cheaper. Wish now that I hadn't bought an awning that is only supplied by one company in this country as they can charge what they want. No complaints about the awning though really good quality. Thankyou Denise

Hi Denise

Be careful what you buy.

We bought one of these 'fits all' bedrooms and guess what? It didn't.

Go for the zip-on type that replaces one of your side panels in the awning - they're much better. I'm pretty sure Towsure sell them.

We ended up buying the pukka version for our awning which cost us about

Mac This is one that zips on the side panel. The hanging awning apparantly just hangs from the awning poles and a lot of people said they never looked right. The one I have seen at Riversway fits on where the side panel would be and slopes down. Denise

I have a universal awning annexe. It doesnt zip into the awning it use straps pulled tight around the awning poles.I have had no complaints from my children,They are very waterproof and windproof,I agree they may not look as good a purpose designed annexe but they do the Job for a lot less money. When not used as a sleeping area I remove the inner so that the cycles go in.

Ian, do you mean an annexe that hangs in the awning or an extra room on the end of the awning and where did you get it from. I think I am getting confused its the hanging awning that people didn't seem to like, so I am looking at the ones that extend the awning. Thanks Denise

Hi Denise,

We have one of these 'Universal Annexes' - I think ours is made by Pyramid. We found it did the job BUT we could never get it to fit very tightly so it flapped in the wind, let alot of air in around the sides making the awning colder and allowed water to pool in the roof.

We now use the proper zip in one by Trio which has stopped all three of those problem (hence have the universal for sale).

I'm nearly there guys. Do the universal annexes just fix onto the awning without zipping and you leave that side panel off the awning to allow access - Have I got this right. And are they quite easy to fit. You know I'm beginning to think you get what you pay for and maybe the annexe designed for the awning will be the best thing, it just means that you have to be sure that you are not going to change your van. Thanks again Denise

Denise, You remove the awning side panel and it fits at the top by having webbing straps that allow it to "hang"from the awning pole that goes from thhe front of the awning to the van. The outside edge also has straps that go round the upright pole. There is a pole supplied which clamps to the cross pole and has a spike in it for the ground which is fitted close to the van and inner webbing straps loop round it. I have used mine in rain successfully but I would consider it fair weather, It takes a bit of practice to tension the straps so that it hangs neatly.

Whether they are value for money depends upon what you want to do with it. I have used it in France for a room for my daughter and it was fine and at st Ives when it rainesd and a bit breezy but I would have strong reservations if the weather turned stormy.

Thanks Ray, I think I will buy the Inaca annexe. If I don't make the grandparents comfortable they may not come again - and the extra hands are useful with three little ones. Thanks again. Denise
