When last did you sterilise the aquaroll?

Is it the inside or the outside of the hose that is slimy? How old is the hose?

I would think that it would be on the outside as doubt if you could feel the inside of the pipe? One end has the pump and the other the connector block?

The slime is algae - that's why regular sterilisation of the fresh water system is necessary.

That’s what I thought. In which case it could be that the plastic of the hose that is breaking down with age; or it is the outside of the hose that needs a clean. Possibly immerse the whole hose in a large container containing Milton and rinse though before use.
If it is the outside of the hose then it won’t have anything to do with the cleanliness of the Aquaroll.

Algae forms over time in any water container, more rapidly in a translucent container.

Sterilisation should start with the water barrel and submersible hose - and only start pumping water into the caravan system once the barrel has had enough time to steriise.

Totally agree but my query is whether this is an external hose connecting Aquaroll to site tap or the submersible hose. Sorry, re-reading my post; I didn’t make that clear.

The OP refers to "the hose on the aqua pump that is inserted into the Aqua roll"

I suspect the OPs Aquaroll is algae contaminated which then cross contaminates the water collection pipe he places in the barrel.
I use both Puriclean and Milton. No issues. BUT , if using Milton in the entire water system leave it no longer than 15 minutes before a thorough flushing. It can corrode the stainless steel hot water tank,

The algae/bacteria/amoeba layer is probably coming from the aquaroll, Sterilising won't cure the problem, only temporarily alleviate it. The sterilising fluids Milton/Puriclean/Domestos bleach (5% ) and even hydrogen peroxide!! only kill the top layers , the coating may be many hundreds of cells deep and the layers underneath will still be alive and once the sterilising fluid is removed will then use the dead cells as food. This was told to me during my working life by the chief microbiologist of a well known pharmaceutical company after a pure water system we supplied and installed became contaminated . The best way to remove the coating is mechanical scrubbing of the surfaces then washing out with one of above sodium hypochlorate chemicals and throwing away all the tubing which can't be cleaned in that way.
