Smelly water

We used our 12 year old van for the first time last weekend. Everything worked but we found that the water drawn up from the aquaroll had a strong chemically taste and smell. It was n't much better at the end of the second fill of water. We had to use a bottle of water for drinking. Is this normal - did the previous owners clean out the pipes with something that takes a lot of washing out? We used two separate aquarolls.

Hi TM.
You need to thoroughly clean the entire system including the waste pipes and waste master.
I use Milton solution but own brands eg Asda are just as good.
Fill your Aquaroll with the water and Milton. Leave for two hours.Connect the pump and start running the solution through all the system including hot. Leave it for no more than 20 minutes in the hot water heater as these solutions can react with stainless steel.Partially block you waste outlets and allow the solution to flow from the taps shower etc then down the waste pipes. Then flush the whole system at least twice .Then renew any filters you may have and flush again. That should do the fix.

What make of van do you have?
There were issues with a large batch of Bailey vans and the pipework installed, which in use gave off a smell similar to TCP.

Some users managed to reduce the problem with using orange juice but the vast majority ended up having to replace the pipework.

It's a Lunar. Will flush through the system a few times - see whether that works. Otherwise I will look at routing of fresh water pipe and see whether I can replace it  . Thanks for replies. :)

We had the same problem with our ABI, we flushed out our water system with Aquasol, but we used hot water in the cold pipe work, we did this two seasons ago and fingers crossed all still seems fine.
