All the bar stabilizers work on the same principle as John Scott invented some sixty odd years ago. That is that a moving plate is allowed to swivel on a central bolt with a friction discs sandwiched on each side of it. It's a comparatively simple job to overhaul it. Make a note of the position of discs and bolts before dismantling. The discs should be rubbed on a piece of gritted cloth to remove the polish. Also the surfaces of the plates should be cleaned. The discs may be replaced with new ones, but they will last for years. Put the parts together in correct order and tighten the central bolt until a pressure of 60lbs when applied to the end of the spring arm begins to move it.
