I guess it depends on what sort or make of caravan you've got. The roof of mine's strong enough to bear my weight standing on it and is approved for this purpose by the manufacturer, so I suppose it would take quite a load of snow.

Hi David.

What i do is take the Jockey wheel off if you can and lower the van at the front as low as it will go,and jack the rear up as high as it will go,I get no trouble with snow, hope that helps,

I reckon the snow will weigh a considerable amount, maybe as much as 200kg, but as its spread over a large are I dont think it will do any damage. I had to clear mine off before I towed it though & it took bloody ages cos it was frozen.

Am i missing something? How do you estimate the weight on the roof, with out first knowing the area of the roof, and the depth of the snow?

I would be happy with 4"-6" on the roof, after that use a brush or similar to push some off, i've done that in the past, on the bungalow roof, but there was about 10"!

for the intellectually curious who like doing calculations the weight of snow is about 3kg per cubic foot for light fluffy stuff, about 7kg per cu/ft. for general snow and about 9-10kg for windblown compacted. So assumming that its average snow and its a foot deep (which is quite a lot) and you've got an 18ftx7.6 roof then you've got about 135 cu.ft at 7 kg cu/ft = 945 kg which probably takes you a bit over the MTPLM

Hello there,to be honest I wouldnt worry about the snow as there is ample amount of strength in the roof and ive never ever heard of snow damaging a caravan. It is not essential that the caravan be kept out of the weather as alot of people use their vans all year,Happy New Year
