Brian we went to the Forestry Commision site at Beddgelert last October which was a nice site. The hardstandings (on the small side) are of shale chippings and some are sloping. The sites off the road approached down a drive crossing the river. If you have a dog there are some nice walks from the back of the site where we were pitched. The one walkway takes you into Beddgelert village and is on the trackbed of the old railway. I dont know how far they will have got by July but they are re-opening the line and in October were close to the campsite. Once open there will be a Halt on the site for people to use the train. At the moment they have 2 preserved South African Beyer Garratt narrow gauge locos that they use. When fully open the line will run for 40 miles from Carnarfon to Porthmadoc. The downside is there are 3 ways to approach Beddgelert, none of them ideal towing but the best is via the A5 turning left at Capel Curig where the last couple of miles are narrow. The other way is via Porthmadoc and the A498. Dont use the A4085. I will certainly go again sometime, you cant get more central to Snowdonia.

Hi Brian, if you want a quiet site with no clubhouse but is great for kids I would recommend Tyn yr Onnen farm 5 miles from Caernarfon 01286 650281

I go there at least 4 or 5 weekends per season, it's a beautiful site right off the beaten track in the mountains of Snowdonia with stunning views and a good play area for kids.

It's a very relaxing site and is not as regimented as some sites you more or less pick your own pitch which are all grass.

The toilet blocks are a little dated but always clean with plenty of hot water.

Downsides, the narrow lane to the entrance can be a bit "tricky" to get down with van in tow and it can get a bit crowded during bank holidays.

I can e mail you some photos of it if you e mail Lisa and she can give you my e mail address

We stayed at the CC site Coed Helen just on the outskirts of Carnarvon which is Ideal for touring Snowdonia. The site is managed along side a static site that has its own bar. Didn't visit this but its only five min walk across the swing bridge into Carnarvon where you can get a good meal at the local Weatherspoon pub. Also just a short walk down to the Menai. Site is, what looks like an old grazing field which is mainly grass and not that big. Its a narrow road to the site and no other facilities for kids unless they can make there own entertainment. Handy for Fishing if thats what you like.
