Can anyone provide some advice..I have a Bailey Beachcomer 1993 model which has a soft floor area around the kitchen /bathroom. I believe the technical name for this is called delamination. I understand there are kits around to resolve this.Any advice where to get these kits from..what price etc. Is there an easier way to effect the repair as I would prefer to do this as a last resort...

Thank you

Del, you are right, it is delamination, and sorry, but there is no easy way to repair it, but it is not that bad really to do:

Floor Delamination.

2. A 2 day time frame must be allowed for the job, as it requires two visits to the van.

3.Inspect van floor and determine extent of problem.

4.Agree with owner regarding removal of floor covering, will he remove coverings to allow access to the floor, or does he want you to remove it?

5. Explain that the floor WILL have very visible evidence of repair, as it will need to be drilled at approx 9 inch centres across the extent of problem.

6. If carpet involved, and is to be reused, use a very sharp Stanley Knife and cut at 90 degrees to horizontal to ensure good edge for relaying. Cut approx 6 inches bigger than affected area .

TOOLS REQUIRED

Stanley Knife with several new blades

Scraper.

Claw hammer

Dustpan and Brush or vacuum cleaner

Several clean used gun tubes

Floor Chemical (A7510 Adhesive, Apollo Chemicals)

Carpet door cover strip if carpet cut across doorway.

Method.

1. Remove floor covering if possible.

2. Start furthest away from door

3. Mark floor at 9 inch centres in diamond pattern across affected area.

4. Check floor for stringers.

5. Avoid holes closer than 6 inches to side furniture.

6 Drill 8mm on marked points JUST through first ply layer. NOT full depth of floor sandwich.

7.Press Phillips screwdriver through each hole and wriggle about to break up polystyrene as much as possible.

8. Clean up debris on floor, use scraper if needed to remove old carpet backing.

Ensure area to be treated is as clean as possible.

9. Remove ALL tools from van.

10. Use suitable number of empty cartridges.

11. Cut Nozzle at 90 degrees to provide a 7mm nozzle end.

12. Put Duck Tape over nozzle end to provide temp seal.

13. Wear mask and goggles, mix suitable quantity of chemicals.

14.Fill tubes to approx

Further Tips

1. Drill hole centres at 5" , this will make it a lot easier for the adhesive to flow . I used 9mm holes and 9 mm dowelling in 5 foot lengths , cut the dowelling close to the floor after inserting , with bolt cutters or similar .

2. Before using adhesive fit 1"x1" slats across the walkway floor , approx 30" long . Screw these slats to the floor area to be repaired between drilled holes . This will pull up level any sagging floor ( concave ) and also stop any bulging ( convex ) , only screw to the top/upper ply .

3.If two part adhesive is used then only mix it in suitable smallish quantities . Use a syringe to inject into the drilled holes until adhesive can be seen in other holes , insert dowelling and cut off close to floor , proceed to next hole and repeat .

4.Clean off all excess adhesive with white spirit and plenty of rags .

5. leave 24 hrs to set . longer if cold weather .

6. Carefully with a wood chisel cut off all remaining dowel stumps level with flooring after removing 1"x1" slats and screws .

7. Rub down floor with sandpaper and block until totally smooth and level , notice you can hardly see the repairs .

8. Clean up and refit floor covering .

Advice :- Its wise to repair a greater area than one found damaged , this will ensure its future proof . I personally did mine front to back on the main walking areas , if I say it myself , its superb , took about 4 hrs total for approx 4 sq metres .

Costs :- 2 1/2 tins of adhesive ( can't remember the name , company in Tamworth )
