Hi, My name is Rae. Have been caravanning 12 years with my wife Karen.( she tells me the only time i'm happy is when i'm in the van...true. I have a 2008 Fleetwood Heritage with a factoy fitted solar panel to trickle charge the battery, The alarm wasn'nt on whilst stored and i had not used the van for a couple of months but the battery was flat. The battery is less than a year old. Question is, do these solar panels really work or are they just a gimmick.. Would appreciate some feedback if anyone has had similar experience...Rae

Rae, l have 2008 Ace Firestar which had a new battery fitted when we bought it in October,it's not been out since the last week in October and l have just been up to check the van, battery showing 90% charge without solar panel.

If l was you l would have the Battery checked out, especially if it was new.

Hi Rae,

Yes they do work is the answer to the first question. Must be something wrong somewhere. I think the panels were 20w.so should have been sufficient. Are you sure that no drain was on the battery. If no drain then without the panel the batt should have held up. what volts does the batt read?.

You will get more responces by posting this under Tecnnical. The panels have a diode that stops the battery discharging back through the panel at night. Perhaps this is faulty.

Regards

Jim
