I would like to buy a solar panel for my caravan but all the tech spec means nothing to me. what should I look for when buying a panel, size, output etc?

I know this has been covered before but need to understand what all the spec stuff means.

I need it to wild camp to supply my light, water etc.

Cheers folks

I use an 80 watt, mono-crystalline with charge controller.

Buy either a mono-crystalline or poly-crystalline, do not get an amorphous panel.

For your purposes a minimum of 50 watts would be necessary with as larger battery as possible, I use 2 x 110 A/H.

For best results the panel should be bonded to the roof with Sikaflex so that it is always charging, rather than putting it out when stationary.

Physical shape is not important.

You will see a lot written about angling the panel to the sun rather than having it flat on the roof, my experience indicates that there is very little benefit in this and it makes positioning the caravan difficult unless you get a sun tracking system which is expensive and in my view unnecessary

We have a 30watt solor panel for running the tv and wired together a 43watt plus a 15watt which we use for charging my electric wheelchair and the caravan lights with. Had no problems with ours and it works lovely.
