There must be some kind of every day items kicking around (not necessarily designed for the purpose) that fit into an awning rail.

I am look at small parts that I might attach a hook or cord to as a support for ancillary equipment (don't ask just yet  )

Thanks.

They will be outside the awning.
Not sure how much weight you are thinking about. An awning rail is pretty strong of course!

Or anchor the bottom of a door canopy in the lower rail when on a tarmac standing:

Looking at those Fiamma ones, we had some similar from kampa which are now consigned to the bin. As they hung from the rail the metal hooks were against the side of the caravan, no siree, no good at all.

Some years ago, we found some that were all plastic attached rigidly to a bar that clips onto an awning pole and have been a real godsend. never seen them for sale since which is a shame, they are brilliant.

EDIT:
Google is your friend.

Brilliant for keeping waterproofs, and wet coats etc near the door where they are needed.

You don't have to use the metal hooks if you don't want to. I use velcro wraps, small bungees and thread the Xmas lights through the hole and other things depending on what I want to hang from the awning / draught skirt rail. Thinking about it I think the metal hows are not in the caravan kit bag as I don't use them. You can get plastic hooks too. :p

You can purchase the lengths of 'awning rail protector'. I found 12 mts of white for 12.48 on ebay (sorry I started with the link but that was not shown correctly so please search it yourself!)
You could presumably cut this to the required length to attach whatever you have in mind - sew material or straps, use a belt hole punch and cable ties. To me this has the advantage of spreading the weight of whatever is suspended along a length of the awning rail.
Perhaps you will publish the outcome of your project!

Thanks for all the helpful comments here, and there are ideas that I very much like.

Unfortunately, the curse of the drinking classes has got in the way (work) and I have not had time to pursue any DIY activities.

When time permits I will give an update, thanks all.
