We are going to Thorney Lakes next weekend for an overnight stay. We only live 30 minutes away but just fancy a quiet weekend away somewhere, I will let you know what it is like. It looks very nice from their website, what appeals to us is the 2.5 miles of offroad walking around the lakes etc as we have the dog.

Just returned from Thorney Lakes.

We loved it. For us it was the perfect site as it was very quiet and laid back. Owner said "pitch where we want" and also said "leave when you want". Site nice and flat and you pitch amongst the apple trees in the orchard. Didn't see many EHU points as we didn't use one. Plenty of space around pitches, nice and flat. Toilet block smallish - 2 showers and 3 loos, quite basic in style but adequate, certainly not 5 star loos but they suited us just fine. Plenty of information in toilet block porch on what to do in the local area.

What was best of all was the amount of walks you had around the farm, we go camping to get away with the dog and it's a paradise for dogs - all the fields (about 4) had a mown path around the perimeter of each one allowing you to walk around and you also have the walk up to and around the lakes.

Some pretty villages in the area, even though we only live down the road we had never visited this area of Somerset before and we will definitely return!

Southfork is a very well run quiet small site with a good shop and caravan servicing a

Approved Workshop. Owners friendly and helpful. Must declare an interest - I have my 'van serviced there with excellent service at keen price.

Depending on what you want to do, there are a number of National Trust places within easy reach, the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton and the Haynes Car Museum at Sparkford both just off A303 to the east, theatre and pool plus shopping in Yeovil - for supermarkets just turn off A303 at Cart Gate roundabout and then left at the one at Yeovil outskirts and carry straight on, Street shopping village to the north, and plenty of nice quiet villages all round.

To find the site come off A303 just east of Cart Gate Roundabout and follow Martock then River Parret Works (but don't worry, no huge great factory - well signed.

I only live 11 miles away but have seriously thought about going there for a quiet break !

Don't know the other two sites but think southfork would well fit your bill. Clean tidy well run quiet site - small play area but fenced off. Friendly owners. Well stocked shop. Approved caravan workshop.

Must admit a bias - they service my caravan very efficiently at a good price and have taken trouble over and beyond what i expected.

If time after visitng family there are several national Trust houses and gardens nearby and the Fleet Air Arm museum and Haynes car museum for a wet day. Good shopping, supermarkets etc. in Yeovil. If you use Calorlite cylinders there is a main Calor agent on the Pen mill Trading Estate in Yeovil (and a Screwfix shop).

Site well signposted from A303 just west of Cartgate roundabout north of Yeovil. Follow Martock and then River Parret Works. Martock itself quite nice. Site is about a mile from the town.

I live only 11 miles away but we have seriously thought about going thre for a nice quiet break.
