Sorento towbar advice

Picked up a new Sorento today and am looking for advice regarding fitting a tow bar. I don't really want to get a detachable, had one on the sportage up till now and allways left it fitted. Can anyone tell me with certainty that a swan neck type won't affect the reversing sensors?. Wiring will be dedicated harness

To be honest you would be better dealing with your fitting company or car dealer.

I agree with Prof John, but I have never had car where the towball (fixed or detached) has had any effect on the rear sensors. But I always used main dealer, or Witter, where with the latter I ask for the make/model specific harness and nota generic one. Modern cars have more interaction with the towing electrics than just the parking sensors. Things like stop/start, light bulb failure, towing assist stability, etc. So when having tow bar fitted the fitter/dealer will recode the car to recognise the tow kit with and without trailer.

WWWdot, I have a 2014 Sante Fem with a fixed towbar, in theory, the fixed Swan neck and the fixed "bolted on " towball should be at the same distance from the rear axle. Driving solo my towball doesnt affect the rear parking sensors at all. And with the caravan on the back you can switch off the sensors.

Fitting companies allways play safe and recommend detachable as they cannot guarantee it.

The price i have been quoted is for dedicated harness. I am told the engine ecu does not need remapping.

By the way the dealer quoted me £850 fitting and chances are they will use a third party company to fit it

The Hyundai dealer quoted me £500 for a Hyundai fitted towbar and dedicated Electrics, 2014. It turned out to be a Witter towbar with a Hyundai sticker and part No. In hindsight I would have gone for a Towtrust bar and have it fitted by them. The dealer doesn't always know about towbars although they should have someone, that knows about the electrics.

Booked in for next friday just need to make up my mind wether to go detachable or not. Tow-trust is not far from me and i was going there but they give me a different price each time i phone up.

I have a 2015 Sorento fitted with a non detachable swan neck tow bar .
It does not affect the reversing sensors, which can be turned of when towing.

My wife put a similar post up on facebook and 3 people also say a swan neck is okay. Think i'll go with the swan neck.

If you look on PF Jones website its shows the types of towbar that can be fitted . It would give you an idea on looks , makes etc. I think they quote around £200 for a mobile fitter?
