Without doing it myself on my computer, it's hard for me to describe Plotter. If you are using XP, click on the start button and then on "Help and support". You should be presented with a list, to the right about half way down you should see "Undo changes with system restore". Click on that and it will give you a calendar, choose your restore point here. If it was last Sunday that things went wrong, I would choose the day before as the restore point. Then it's just a case of following the instructions it gives. It takes a short time 5-10 Min's to sort itself out, then the computer will need to be restarted for it to take effect. Once again, give it the chance to do it's thing and follow any on screen directions.

It won't harm your computer, so it's worth giving it a go.

Hope this helps.

If it works, I'll expect a cheque in the post. If it doesn't then I'm not actually Lol, I am in fact an impostor of no fixed abode and with a mental health care order attached.

System restore is so easy to use if youve had problems and not scarey as many think it might be.

I use it quite a bit after the kids have been 'at' my PC.

One mate I know would reinstall Windows about once a month if he had any little problems crop up, now its over a year sinse he needed to re install he just restores to a safe point a day or so before his problems began

If you set up a safe point once a week when everthings fine it gives you a safe point to head back to....or it will randomly set up safe points itself

To be honest, I don't know. If the computer gives you the choice of the dates, then I can see no reason why they can't be used. How about trying an earlier time, say two weeks ago on the calendar and seeing if that works.

Maureen look at the calander thats shows a month when you ask to restore to a previous date and you should see several dates displayed in heavier type.

These are the dates where a restore point has been set up...click on that date and it should tell you in the RHBox if there is one and at what time.

Click on that and ask to restore to that point...things will happen including the PC rebooting.....bear with it all and dont panic, let it do its job, after a while you will be asked if you wish to accept that point..do so....good luck (try not to go back to far by date and if 1st attempt fails go back a bit further till all is well)

Don't forget to re-install any programs that you have installed between the restore point and today. All your files will be safe. I don't know if anyones mentioned this but I'm too idle to scroll and read .... hehheh!

Lord B is right you will have lost recently installed programs.

Don`t re install them all in one go....re install each one then run your PC for a while and make sure all is still OK.

It maybe that one of the programs you had previously installed could have been 'corrupted' or if downloaded from the net included a virus/spyware etc. Check each out as you go along running virus scans etc at each stage

I am going to try the restore but no until Tuesday the reason being is that I have my driving test on Monday so need the pc to practice theory and hazard perception so cannot risk it crashing if you will excuse the pun.

Colin/Liz thankyou both for your good wishes,I am keeping my fingers crossed that I pass so I can get on with training for the second test and then onwards and upwards to the third and final test.I will be glad when I pass that one for it will be a real stinker.
