Selection Camping at La Croix Valmer is just over the hill from St Tropez, but slightly away from the madding crowd so just a bit less frantic and has a good pool. It's about 400metres from the beach, and the beach is good for youngsters, with a reasonably gentle shelf into the sea, beachside restaurant and snack bar, and watersports. There are some good areas for rock-pooling too. I haven't actually stayed there, but have friends in La Croix Valmer and spent loads of time down on that beach, and the one just next door at Gigaro, when my sons were small. There is a quieter back road or track into St Tropez, too, which takes you through the vineyards and up into the top end of the village where you can find a parking space, so you can walk down into town even on market day - when the rest of the world is queueing along the coast road or to get into the main car parks!
Prairies de la Mer at Port Grimaud is nearer to St Tropez, as are the beachside sites at Pampelonne Plage, but they are really busy and traffic can be crazy in the peak season.
