Southern Brittany - Morbihan

Hello

Has anyone been to the Morbihan region of Southern Brittany, if so can you recommend a campsite with access to a beach, did you like this area, are the beaches good? we can't decide on this region or further up the coast to Concarneu. We thinking of sailing Portsmouth to St Malo.

Our favourite site in that region is Camping des Isles at Penestin. It has direct access to a beach. You will find it in the Caravan Club Travel Service book and it is also now taking camping cheques in low season this year.

I would say the site is good for cycling as the surrounding area is pretty level. Penestin is within walking distance although not too close. For shopping there is a basic Intermarche in Penestin - you will pass it on the way from the N165 but better shopping is available at the Hyper U in nearby Herbignac. The town of La Roche Bernard is not far away - driving rather than walking distance. La Baule is good for a day out as is Pornichet. There is a very good fish restaurant within a short walk from the site along the beach. The toilet blocks are quite new and very clean. The part of the site by the beach is mainly touring and across the road is the area with the mobile homes, tennis court and football pitch.

We have just come back from Park St Brigitte which is just west of La Baule. Its probably a bit further east of where you want to go but its a very nice quiet open site with heated covered pool. It isn't that near the beach but there are many beaches nearby and also interesting places like the salt pans at Guerande and lots of small fishing villages. Definitely recommend Portsmouth St Malo as its very easy to drive down to that part of Brittany from there. It isn't the cheapest option but the Brittany Ferries buffet is still very good and we usually manage a good nights sleep. We usually come back Caen Portsmouth as there isn't a night boat running St Malo Portsmouth anymore and it saves trying to get to St Malo for earliy in the morning.
