Freddie,

Go! We went in February this year for 6 weeks. Stayed on Costa Blanca.

Took P&O Dover Calais (cheap) then stopped Rambouillet (site opens 1 Feb) but you can stay at Dreux (site in Caravan Club European Guide). Next stop Orcet near Clermond Ferrand (open all year) then Narbonne (La Nautique opens 1 Feb but there are others open in January - see Guide). This route saves lots of tolls on French Autoroutes.

Then Barcelona - Vilanova and to Costa Blanca next day. Nice trip, no problems safety etc. Plenty of sites open in Spain and good rates with Camping Cheques or ACSI card.

You can go West France, N Spain to Valencia but not many sites open in inland Spain in winter. We stayed at Calatayud on way back. Difference in distance was only about 50km!!

We're going end February 2006 for another 6 weeks. Can't wait!

Alan

Not sure which is your most convenient ferry. We use west Channel route and then go down west coast of France - Overnights opean all year at heric (Rennes - Nantes) Pons (north of Bordeaux) Dax or St. Jean de Luz on the border. Then into Spain and Pamplona - Zaragoza - Teruel - Valencia. Very easy with less HGVs than the east coast route. Open all year Sites at Catalyud (Savinan) south of Zaragoza and at Manzanera and navajas between Tereul and Valencia. Keep the tank topped as quite long distances between stations on this route.

From Valencia very easy down to La Manga.

Hi Freddie, Just a point to add to the other info. We were told to beware of la Manga Because its the sort of place you either love or hate.

we visited there last spring for a look round and it was not our sort of site at all.

It is a huge place on the shore of a rather dirty looking beach.

We were expecting the imortal Heidi Hei to come over the tannoy at any time.

A lot of the site is taken up by chalet type buildings and static vans with loads of add ons and extensions.

The site is close to Cartagena (spelling?) but not much else.

As I said its the sort of place you either love or hate -not for us.

If La Manga is not your type of place head for Cartagena then over the costal road to Puerto de Mazarron only just getting developed and about six sites in the area (see caravan club foreign sites book) Sites are busy in winter though.
