We had a meeting with our council a while back, they said did we think speed bumps for our road were a good idea. We said we didn't want them - irresponsible speeding in our road could be stopped if the local taxi company, who are the only offenders anyone is aware of, would co-operate.
Off topic, but at the same meeting we discussed stopping people parking on verges (we have road, then grass verge, then pavement, then front garden walls - people park on the verge because you can't park in the road without making the road too narrow for anything except a small car to get through. The council Highways bloke said they were looking at putting posts down the verges to stop this.
Resident: "These posts, will they be wooden or concrete?"
Council: "Not decided but probably wood, why?"
Resident: "I want to know if my chainsaw will deal with them or if I'll need a masonry disc for the grinder"
He got a round of applause.
