I'll have a look , don't think i've been zapped. I live in N. Wales where if you're not paranoid, you should be!!

Nice one Paul.

Nearly fell for that one til I checked the picture.

I have had my number plate clone'd so I would want to see a copy of the photo.

Speed cameras. You can never trust them anyway.

Always ask to see a copy of the calibration certificate and also check with the local authority that the camera has been sited where the permission was granted.

We had a camera at Bromyard (herefordshire) thta was put up on the wrong road and was concealed by a tree so it was very successfull at taking illegal photos for several years before the mistake was found. Just imagine how pig sick those folks are who paid up without checking the legallity of the camera.

Interesting take, those that paid up probably knew they were guilty.

Cars kill literally thousands of people every year and yet attempts to cut the numbers of deaths are met with negativity by many motorists.

IMO all speed cameras should be concealed. The limits are there for a reason. Take for example if I was working on a major roadworks I wouldn't feel comfortable with only a few traffic cones for protection and yet you see drivers slowing for the highly visible speed cameras only to speed up again afterwards. Their attitude is pure arrogance that they have a right to do what they want and of course, they will never be the cause of an accident.

Driving around major cities it is amazing how many floral tributes have been put in place to mark fatalities and yet the speed limits in built up areas are low. There is an argument that speed doesn't kill, only bad driving. Regrettably many bad drivers also speed and lack the capability of reacting in time when danger arises.

I quite agree with you, anyone who uses speed inappropriately deserves the full weight of the law to decend upon them. Most people on the roads today have not got a clue how to handle a car, as they now come equipped with ABS, traction control, Intelegent suspension protection (ford) etc. I yesteryear, we had to drive the car and fully understand its limits in all weather conditions.

The point I made about the wrongly positioned camera mearly illustrates how incompetent people are at making sure all the legalities have been addressed before they start shouting.

An interesting point you've raised Rioja. The floral tributes we see these days. While I have every sympathy with those who have lost loved ones and certainly do not wish to upset them in any way, I must say that some accident sites have so much floral decoration that they present a situation of distraction to some of those already shakey drivers on our roads. I have witnessed people slowing to actually read the tributes or even far worse actually stopping at the sceene to get out and view. This clearly then puts other road users at risk as they then have to go round a parked car on an already hazardous piece of road which is self evident by the floral displays.

I would certainly not wish to prevent immediate family members from paying their respects and love for their lost one, but something unobtrusive would be good rather than some of the large distracting displays we see.

Now I will say that I personally do not pay any major attention to the displays other than to observe their presence in my observations while driving and i do not allow them to distract me.

I don't agree speed cameras should be conceled, I suppose the logic is that you'd not speed INCASE there was one.

But they are supposed to get people to slow at certain places.

What has to happen it a change of mind set like happened with seat belts, drink driving & is happening with mobile phones.

Attitudes need to change, that takes time.

When i passed my PCV test at 18 years old i was on a restriction, part of witch meant that if i got one point i'd loose my PCV & have to re-test at 21 to get it back, I've always kept to the limits because of this.

Yes its easy to miss a sign on a strange road or just creep over the limit. We have the technology to solve it with GPS speed limiters, i'd have one but how many others would surrender to technology. I've driven coaches for years at a limit of 100kph so it doesn't bother me at all.

Sorry to preach but a final word

IF YOU DON'T SPEED YOU WON'T GET DONE FOR SPEEDING!

Gareth

P.s. i got done 7 years ago 49mph in a 40 zone, road i knew well but a new limit, i'm guilty, the signs were there to be seen. I was driving a coach with 30 people on. I deserved it.
