Speeding on sites

Admittedly I am wearing my flat cap and comfy slippers and I have just lit my pipe but why is it that speed limits on sites do not apply to site wardens?

It doesn't apply to most people on site, never mind the wardens, on the sites we have stayed on this year. Was at Southport last weekend and quite a few number plates were a blurr going past our van (and it didn't have anything to do with the wine!). This was despite a fair prorportion of children being on site at the time.

It annoys me as well. Far too many people speed around sites with little consideration for youngsters.
Often children will be unsteady on bikes and their path can be unpredictable.
On the main roads and motorways I will admit that I am the first to put my foot down, but on sites and around built up areas I am extra vigilant.
This year on a site near Bexhill was a case in point.
As we were leaving the site for an evening out, I came round a blind bend on the site and a young lad on a skateboard was heading straight towards me, whilst looking the other way. I had stopped completely, but he ploughed straight into the front of the car. No damage done, but if I had been travelling as fast as some others I had seen earlier in the day, it could have been a nasty accident.

On every site we have ever stayed on, and on every site that has signs up, we have seen CHILDREN screaming around on bikes, skateboards and these evil mini scooters.

The signs "All children must be supervised at all times" is routinely ignored. The parents of such children are inevitably propping up the bar, and when (as happened on the site we were staying on in July) a 'child' ploughs into somebody's brand new car on site, nobody wants to know, and said so called parents get all arsy with the driver who was actually doing nothing wrong.

Luckily the site had CCTV, and the childs parents were held liable for ignoring the site rules.

But it shouldn't happen. And sometime in the future a child will DIE whilst their parents are p**ing it up in the bar.

So OBEY THE SITE RULES!

I have noticed on a lot of CC sites that they have signs stating use 1st gear, this I belive is the best way forward as people seem to understand this better than 5 or 10mph as they do not have to keep looking at the speedo which can also lead to accidents.

Because they think they own the site!!! scarborough three years ago was a prime example when the asst warden with a discovery was often exceeding the speed limit. Tried another site this year as a one off and never saw the wardens around enough to catch them speeding, however children on bikes and scooters even annoyed our three children as they were nearly knocked to the ground more than once!! We were told off by the warden for walking through the site with the dowgs (opposite direction to dog walk) to show the children safely and with supervision where to find the playground while the kick em out type of parents were not reprimanded for the speed their children were going!! Now why is it we always go to CL/CS's???????????????????

Two kids have died on CC sites in the last two years.

On the CC site we used at weekend the warden caught up with someone in a pickup speeding and had a go at them ,as Lord B says signs were everywhere. Also out of interest, when enough people had left before 12.00 to allow booked members on,they put a sign up saying pitches to be cleared by 4.00 which I thought was very good.

2 weeks ago we were at Stanwix Park in Silloth when on our second last day a silver Lexus 400H pulling a brand new bailey turned up on site, after setting up he seemed to take great pleasure in tearing around the site at great speed . Both my wife and i were glowering at him , one time i was out BBqing (yes thats when we had the mini heatwave) he was tearing past i must have glowered that much at him he threw on the anchors and stopped beside my van and tried to stare me out through the side windows ,Intimidation does not work with me . As previously said there has been two fatalities in the last few years how many more till people start getting the message ?

Speeding is a killer, I am a retired motorway cop and I find the speed of members and non members on the club sites appalling, I have my own way of dealing with these people, I have a soft sponge ball and as they pass or rather just before they do I chuck the ball out in front of them, its amazing how quickly they slow down, some have even done emergency stops. Quite rash but it makes them think
