Spent Caravan

Just bought ourselves a new (well, second hand) Swift Corvette to replace our 20 year old Swift Rapide.

This isn't an ad by the way - please bear with me.

The Rapide's pretty much on it's last legs but probably could be used for another couple of seasons but is basically a spares or repairs job (repairs being the better option!). I've advertised it on Ebay and been met with a bunch of timewasters.

It's currently stuck on my driveway in front of the new van meaning when we want to go away we have to pull it off the drive, push it right up the street, get the new one out and put it back which is a pain in the bum - not to mention the fact that its totally on show and there are gangs of kids armed with fireworks roaming around at the moment so I'm pretty nervous!

My question is does anybody know how you dispose of a 'spent' van? I know how to scrap a car but I've no idea how you scrap a caravan?

Also if anyone wants it it's free to a good home!

This still isn't an ad though hehe

Hi Paul. I stripped my old van down to the chasis and took all the guts to the tip in a trailer. Then towed the chasis to the tip. After all that work I found out that the shovel operator prefers caravans to be delivered whole. That way he gets to flatten it using the shovel. In fact they have arguements as to who gets to demolish it. Have a word with the lads at your tip and it may be as simple as towing it there.

It almost makes me feel guilty though. We were only away in it three weeks ago and despite the fact that when I pulled it off my driveway I tore about a metre of the back end away, then proceeded to crash the same damaged back end into a bollard, then have it career off the kerb causing the front panels to part, then having to kick the back end into reasonable shape and only to find I couldn't secure it to the floor because the rear floor was rotten and a large square had fallen out due to the impact, only to have to use plumbers mait to hold it in place, then to find on arrival the front end had split completely, then to find that the leisure battery was shot completely, then to find that the battery charger kept blowing its fuse so no 12v , only to find that the fridge wouldnt run on gas cos the ignition was broken, only to find that the 240v wires were getting red hot with the heater on, then to find that the water system was pretty much shot, we had a great week, albeit without using much of the stuff in the van.

Forgot to mention that the brakes kept 'sticking'.

Its been a great van but to get it back into a safe and useable van will require a complete removal of the entire interior, ripping out the damp wallboard at the front and in the bathroom, putting in a new section of flooring at the back, replacing the entire water and electrical systems, complete renovation of the axles and brakes, a new brake bellow and god only knows what else.

Basically its spent but I love it so dearly!

I think I'll ring the tip in the morning!

Tow it to a local DIY car park, take the window out the side and sell bacon & egg and tea in cups that are impossible to hold and remains scalding hot for hours.

I was actually thinking of covering the floor and walls with fibreglass and fitting an outboard motor then next time Hull floods I'll not only be safe but I'll have somewhere dry to live.

I do like the bacon and egg butty idea though. The hob still works perfectly.

Actually, one of them does, the other one pretty much kills you when you try to light it.
