Spiers House site, North Yorkshire

Hi

Can anyone advise on the route to this site from the A1 (driving down from Scotland via Scotch Corner)?

Directions say that there is a "BIG hill" at Sutton Bank and an alternative route via Coxwold.

Is this hill negotiable? I'm towing a medium sized van (1500kg) with a honda diesel CRV and have done some fairly steep gradients in the past.

Do I have to bite the bullet and take the long way round?

Thanks for any help.

If you are travelling from Scotland why go so far south? Leave the A19 onto the A174 at Middlesbrough, A172 to Stokesley, go down the B1257 Bilsdale road to Helmsley, then take the A170 to the required exit. Easy drive, good scenery, no hills worth worrying about. Just watch out for the speeding motorbikes - a very popular weekend excursion.

You could also go to see the white horse when you visit Sutton Bank but I believe you get a better view from a distance as you can't see it all when close up to it!!
