Squeacky Brakes

Brother in law serviced my van last moth as the brakes were squeacking a bit. Plenty on the pad little bit of dust in the drum so every thing OK for our holiday. Just got off the motorway and the squeak was back with vengence you could here me coming from miles away and it did'nt get any better.

Help please.

Dennis, its probably dust again causing the squeak. Unfortunately the compounds they have to use for brake linings now do cause more dust, as opposed to the old asbestos type.

With drum brakes, as there is no direct outlet to the air, the dust cannot escape, hence the squeaking.

Agree with Damian

A Citroen garage I used had an information sheet for customers on the counter explaining just what Damian has said but in a more long winded way.

The only other thing to try is lightly sanding the drums and shoes with wet & dry and squirting with brake cleaner.

Its quite common for caravan brakes to squeal
