Squeaky brakes

I have an Astra 1.6 CD and used to tow a caravan but now have a Pennine Pullman. The problem I have is that if I have to put more than a slightest pressure on the brakes there is an almighty screech. This does not happen without the van/camper on the back. Any ideas?

First outing last weekend to Edinburgh, spent whole weekend in an almost monsoon down pour and it didn't leak!!!!! Feel I can cope with any weather now.

The caravan brakes do tend to squeak and its probably the same set up on your outfit

Cleaning out the dust from the brake drums and rubbing them and the shoes with abrasive can help but its down to the non asbestos brake linings used these days to a large extent

Its like it used to be in the motor trade "They all do it Sir"

Debbi, if I read your post correctly, the screeching only happens with the van/camper attached to the car.

If this is the case, then it will undoubtedly be brake dust in the "trailer" brake drums.

It is nothing to worry about, as such, annoying yes, but it should be cleaned out at your next service of the "trailer".
