on reading the forum I see we agree we should not have to put up with such bad dealers,as suggested we probably cant name the dealers(p.s any of you with fiends/family that work in the law business might ask them about this?) however as some one suggested you can descibe the area, people should know from that and when anyone deals with a dealer this year and however you find them pop a note in this forum with a heading "a good dealer" or "bad dealer" however you want to head it so at least you might have been able to help someone along the line cheers!

Difficult to do as some people have had bad expereiences and others say they they are the best dealers around.

I have had this both good and bad.

One dealer was so bad i wouldnt even take a caravan from them if it was given to me.My friend has bought 5 vans from them over the years and wont have have a bad word said against them.

I deal with a dealer now who has been great and helpful to me and im on my third van from them ,others disagree

So its horses for courses really.

Hi Karen

I don't agree with what you are suggesting.

Being a naturally suspicious person, if your suggestion was to go ahead, I can see the 'trolls' making false allegations/false comments of superb service etc regarding dealers in particular areas.

I can't see Haymarket allowing such a proposal to go ahead, I might be wrong. Not only that, it would have to be heavily monitored by the mods who do their job on a voluntary basis.

I am yet to meet an honest car dealer (sorry Brian, I meant apart from you). I'd love to name and shame them but don't.

You'd end up with a memberlist made up entirely of caravan dealers and their fictitious mates, all slagging each other off.......like taxi and ice cream wars.

I also have a mate, who complains about all dealers - he'd fill the forum with his lists of places to avoid.

Karen,

If there was a truly independent, nationwide survey of caravan dealers and service centres, then yes - that would be really useful information - and maybe something the CC and C&CC should jointly be doing for their members.

Relying on untraceable people, with different personal criteria or motives, answering over the Internet isn't the way to go.

Have a look at http://www.rip-off.co.uk/ and http://www.clik2complaints.co.uk/right4c2.html. The latter site gives the dealer an opportunity to answer the complaint.

I notice that my post was edited because I mentioned an issue with Practical caravan magazine checking on dealers regarding servicing. seems PC magazine do not agree with Fredom od speech.

However in answer to your reply, the dealer cannot answer because we are not allowed to mention the dealer, manufacturer or anything that may give a clue to their identity.

The mods do not like it!

To try yet again to clarify the situation regarding naming and shaming dealers, it is not a case of the "mods" not liking it, in fact the "mods" would like nothing better than to have a comprehensive list of great dealers and the not so great!

The problem is that with any complaint, on any goods, it is the aggieved persons view of what they think is good or bad service, from their point of view as a customer, and by the fact that they feel annoyed thattheir purchase is not entirely to their satisfaction, it is a biased view.

It may well be that the dealer, or whoever, has lots of very satisfied customers, so to get a balanced opinion all of their views must be included in the overall decision about the level of service or sales, which would be impossible to achieve.

Unless the owners of the website, Haymarket Magazines, can verify EVERY single complaint themselves, they cannot allow unsubstantiated complaints and bad mouthing of dealers based on highly personal views of unhappy purchasers, as the forum would be overloaded with not only genuine complaints, but many vindictive and untrue complaints by people who have hidden agendas running for whatever reason.

As we live in such a litigatious society these days, where "someone" MUST be to blame for everything, then the dealers and manufacturers would have a field day taking Haymarket to court for libellous and slanderous publications, as Haymarket own the site and are responsible for the content which is allowed to remain in the public view.

It is for these reasons that a "Name and Shame" section on the forum will not happen, and that any complaints are taken up by the individual with the person with whom they have the contract, be that retail shop, dealer or whoever.

The Sale and Supply of Goods Act give the consumer all the protection it possibly can, use it!!

Go to the Govt website, print it and slap it down in front of the dealer or whoever and demand your legal rights in the proper mannner.

This forum, and the internet in general is not the place to resolve personal issues like this.
