Status 530 Directional Aerial help required

Hi all has anyone fitted the above as a diy project if so how easy was the Status 530 Directional Aerial to fit also did you use any extra sealant.

Are they worth the money and any problems with them please?

Yes fitted one as a DIY project.

It was very easy, the only difficult part is having the courage to bore a 42mm [ or something like] hole in the roof.

Honestly cant remember if I used any extra sealant, it was in about 2002.

They are exceptionally good coming from the Status 350 ? round job.

I used a "proper" domestic aerial on a tube from the jockey because the fitted aerial was so poor, but the Status is so much less hassle than the proper job and something less to find room for.

Worth the money; well for me yes but everyone has their own idea of value so nobody can answer that for you.

No problems with it at all, but then I had a first rate operative fitting it!

Hi Mark

Check first to make sure that you won't be cutting through a roof strut.

The Status 530 is very good but as an alternative to cutting large holes in your caravan have you considered a satellite dish set up? It would be as good if not better.

Hi Parksy yes i tried a satellite system and i spent a great deal of time lining the dish up. I just sold my lunar chateau caravan and i had a normal aerial fitted,it had a long tow hitch connected to a free view box, which worked great but i have a shorter hitch now and the sight i stay on means the aerial faces caravan front window which is a bit tight on my Baily caravan, thats why i was looking at other alternitives thanks for advice mark

its up to you, but i woundnt drill a hole in the roof of my van.

ensure you fit it in the area bailey have fitted the wooden block, for that purpose. If you email them they usually send you a drawing of its location.

Some versions of these ariels have leaked round the roof seals.

From a cost point of view screwfix do a great pole mounted ariel with mast head amp and coax, i have found it good enough to recommend. If you want the model let me know i will look it up. cost around

I wouldn't hesitate to drill a hole in the van roof if you follow the instructions and measure twice (at least)

I fitted the Maxview Semitonicsat dish (excellent instructions,template and service) to my Bailey and transferred it after 2 years to the Ace Award

There was no sign of damp ingress on the Bailey when it was removed and blanking plates are available if you need to transfer the roof aerial to another van

I have had both types of roof aerial and the directional one is much better than the old mushroom type and its a lot easier to set up especially if its pouring with rain
