Hi... Iv just bought a flat screen TV and cant get it to tune in...upon further investigation I found that one of the internal fuses has blown....for some unknown reason there are two fuse linked together...any ideas would be grateful... I know fuses are cheap and the unit could be duff...if I get it to work again will it get free view ok ??? Or do I need another aerial ???...Steve

Hi Sproket,

We have an omni-directional TV aerial and a laptop with freeview.

Sometimes we get TV, sometimes we don't!

From what I gather, if we get a proper aerial (and point it the right way), we'll get TV more often.

It seems that digital TV is far more sensitive, to the quality of the signal, than analogue TV.

That looks a bit flash!

I think, before shelling out that kind of money, I'd try the omni-directional aerial at a few sites and see if you get a picture.

I've ordered a new TV card for the laptop that will receive analogue as well as digital TV (while we still have analogue TV) - this should give me a reasonable chance or receiving a signal!

Incidentally, we always take a selection of DVDs with us, for those times we can't get a picture.

type in your (or the caravan site's post code) put in a house number and tick the installers box. It will tell you where the most likely transmitter is and what sort of service you are likely to get with a decent oustide antenna on the top of a house. If it reckons that the service is marginal then you won't have much luck with an omnidirectional Status. get a directional aerial, stick it on a tall pole and you'll have more chances of getting a decent signal - however to get the tv to tune in (especially with freeview) you'll have to point the aerial in exactly the right direction.

The problem with a digital signal is that you wont get a picture at all unless the antenna is almost exactly lined up, you will get some sort of analogue picture when the antenna is quite a long way off.

Hi

I'd agree with others here - that the Status aerial will receive digital freeview pictures - but it really does depend on where you are.

I've had great reception....then I've had NOT great reception.

It's worth re-tuning your TV each time to see if that helps.

Why not not leave the television at home and take a good bottle of Brandy and a good selection of books.
