I have a winterhoff stabilser fitted to my caravan. When I try to unhitch the van on a slight gradient the hitch sticks to the towbar. To release it we have to try ease the pressure of the caravan off the towball. Has anybody had same problem and if so any tips to release it.

when your towing the friction pad in the stabilizer get hot and expand. Ideally if you release the stabiliser about 100mtr before you stop you will find it easier to unhitch.

Hi Ian, I have the winterhoff on my van and I have also had the occasional problem of not being able to release it, especially after reversing onto a pitch.

I find that by drawing forward a couple of metres it releases a little easier, but I have also found that as per the comment above if I release the stabiliser after booking in at reception by the time I arrive on a pitch it does seem to release every time.

I take it if I release it then it is still safe to drive. Some sites have speed bumps, will it disconnect when i go over the bumps.

regards

Ian
