Hi, can anyone suggest the best grease/lubricant to use on my 2 front corner steadies which seem to be getting more difficult to wind up and down each time we use our caravan. Someone told me not to use WD40 but I am clueless so any advice welcome.

Cheers Rob

Not to be a 'downer' but have you considered how you actually use the steadies? They should be just on the ground and NOT supporting the weight of the van, or they could get kinked. If you are wsinding them to the hilt then this may be a contributing factor.

Of course you are not doing this are you???

I believe in the Law of Dr Sod in these things. If you have 4 steadies then 2 will always be fine, 1 will be a bit sticky, and 1 is always a b...r.

As a 'by the way', I use heavy grease (used for marine applications, Halfords sell it). Travelling in heavy rain conditions (which seems normal these days) will quickly lead to oil and grease (and especially WD40) being washed off. Oil is less dense than water so there is a natural tendency for oil to lift when covered in water, hence the oil film on roads when wet. WD40 applications should be replenished regularly.
