Stopping algae

Hi

We are plagued with green algae in the country. All the cars get it as does the windows and house. Sure it cleans off but a caravan is bigger and harder to clean. Anyone have any ideas on something to add to a wash or to a pressure jet that would stop it forming?

Hi sillybilly

Try a small amount of bleach next time you clean of the green algae works for me and we get loads with all this damp weather.

Put on rubber gloves and eye protector.

I have just cleaned up my caravan ready for the first trip of the year.

I found green algae on and around the awning rails, the external flaps and the fridge vents, which I have not previously experienced.

I found some autoglym caravan and motorhome cleaner, sprayed it on the affected areas and agitated with a soft painting brush.I then cleaned it all off with my usual hosepipe/brush arrangement.

To my amazement this actually worked ,and without using a jet spray which can damage seals. It appears to actually "kill" the algae as well as clean.

Never use bleach on plastic panels,ie front and back, mudguards etc.Might not be too kind on sealing mastic either
