hello, anyone ever stopped at Caen ferry port over night? we are on the afternoon sailing in the summer from Portsmouth and we land about 9.30. when we booked the holiday the tour operator said we could stay at the port in a secure lock up, but i remain unconvinced!!! any advice or tips gratefully received. many thanks, Dawn.

Hi Dawn,

I used the Oiustreham port quite often, either arriving off the morning ferry or departing on the overnight ferry. I've never stayed overnight at the port but have seen other outfits there obviously parked up for the night, so it does happen. However it is definitely not a "secured" area, there is no perimeter fence around the parking area and it is adjacent to the town centre with its small fairground, stalls and a few restaurants.

The place seemed quiet and orderly but I have no knowledge of what it would be like in the early hours.

There is a couple of sites a short drive from the port.

Just back, literally, from Spain/France via Ouisterham. We were positively discouraged from staying on the port last night. Whilst there are a couple of bays just outside the port, they are on the small side for any average length oufit. OK for motorhomes. We stayed at Camping les Pommiers just outside the village. OK for one night cost _15 incl electricity. Le Gardien opens the gate at 7am for the morning ferry. Could be busy and noisy in summer tho'
