Just back from a morning sorting our new van out for next weeks trip away.

Storred in a secure farm areas fine but the dust and grime thats descended in just 3 weeks makes the van look uncared for.

Oh I know one answer is 'WASH IT' but with van covers available to protect vans surely the investment in one would be worthwhile.

The prices vary considerably.. as does the form of protection.

Any advice please?

John, just got a PROTEC cover for my van. Took 3 weeks for them to make it, and it comes with hitch cover and extending poles to help put it on, plus foam pipe lagging for the sharp edges, like rain channels, etc.

Very good quality, but pricey at about

Yes PROTEC certainly look good. I`m very tempted but having slightly overspent this year on the van etc funds are a bit tight.

I think this year its got to be a 'cheapy' from www.boatworld.co.uk (

Hello John, as you may have already read, the only problem with covers , particularly the cheaper ones, is twofold.

Firstly it needs to be breathable, some are not, and if not, then trapped moisture will be a problem, and will allow green algae to form where water condenses on cooler panels and the roof. The protec allows moisture to pass through the cover to the outside whilst stopping water entering through the cover.

Secondly, the protec type cover has a soft inner facing, which "fluffs up" if it is rubbed against the van body , and provides an even softer protection.

The other aspect to consider is that protec has the caravan makers approval for use, whereas others do not, so may affect warranty claims, if any damage is caused by the cover.
