strange fishy smell!

There seems to be a strange fishy smell within our 2 overhead cupboards and we have no idea where it comes from and the smell does not appear to be going no matter what we try. The cupboards house a light, a speaker from a car radio (which we did take out to see if that was the problem)and the ariel.

Nothing is kept in these cupboards due to the smell other than these items, could it be any of these causing it? Any advice???

We had the same smell at home . Tracked it down to the switch for the shower which had a loose earth wire . The smell was the plastic switch gotting hot.

Hope this helps.

I think Brian may have the answer. Many years ago, our neighbours were plagued by a fishy smell in the house. When they eventually tracked down the source, it proved to be some electrical light switches in which the plastic had deteriorated. I would check the area surrounding the light for a start. Our neighbours had to replace a number of switches, but it did cure the problem.

i have just had to replace two bedside lamps because of the same problem the plastic holders on the lamps were giving off an awful stink gone now

We had the most awful fishy smell in our old motor home. Blamed the grey water tank for week after warm week while the van was on our drive between trips. Eventually discovered that I had left fish cakes in the freezer box of the fridge and turned all the electrics off.

Not that this is of any use to you but it was funny.

On the same theme Mel, I once bought an ex-army Escort estate which smelt of kippers everytime I used the heater?

Turned out probably some squaddies with a warped sense of humour had dropped a couple of small pieces of same into the heater.

Took me a whole day to remove, clean and replace that heater!!
