This weekend has been a series of small disasters.

Trying to finalise insurance at the last moment has resulted in me paying two different introducers the same premium , so more phone calls next week.

I managed to fill the water barrel, turn on the heater , went on to other duties, then realised that the drain tap was open so had dumped all the water. Now the water heater is not producing. Q1: if a fuse has blown (wishful thinking) would that be before the distribution board switch (the HW neon is on)?
Q2: Am I likely to have destroyed something, in particular the element?

Also, I forgot to disengage the brake before manoeuvring the van into position using the motor mover! Q3: Am I likely to have caused damage to with the MM or the caravan brakes? In particular I am concerned about the return trip on Monday. Not keen on having a repeat performance last time we were here - the caravan wheel parting company on an A road slip road.

Thanks

The water heater is probably a Truma and if the hot water heating is left switched off for about 5 minutes, the trip will reset itself. However it should work on gas anyway.

Thanks - you are correct.

I had hoped the heater would reset itself, but 2 days later still cold. Trouble is, I did not actually turn it off and back on again (it not being a PC etc).
After reading your comment, I physically turned it off, took kids to park, turned heater back on and we went out to dinner.

Our return was greeted by scalding water - so thank you for pointing out the bleedin’ obvious!

Just got to find a plausible reason for the wife as to why we have been boiling kettles, despite me being a service engineer ☺️

Sadly they don’t reset like that, you need to remove the 230v either from the van or the boiler to reset them.

The OP might find if they refill the water hear and reinstates the 230v the heater will come back to life 🤔

I did turn off the mains switch for a period, which is how I took Buckmans advice, and all is now well. As far as the HW is concerned.

The Truma Ultra store on my Coachman 545 would reset after about 5 minutes, I can't remember if I removed power from it or not. I probably did, only happened twice. When Mrs H was too quick powering up the boiler before I filled the system.

On our Lunar all we had to do is turn the "heating" knob to the off position and no need to switch off the 240v.

Sorry to hear you've had a challenging weekend. I hope matters have improved . Regarding the motor mover and handbrake, I forgot to take the Handbrake off, but it didn't do any noticeable harm fortunately, so you may be o.k with that. If you haven't sorted the water heater out as yet, may be just switching off the power, turn back on refilling the Aqua roll then restarting, before trying the Heater.
Good luck with the insurance companies, I hope you get your money back o.k from the one you didn't want to use. One thing, I've learnt is , when i'm going away, I need to prepare well in advance, but I appreciate that is'nt always easy to do, if your busy. all the best, i hope you get sorted and your next trip is much easier

Good wishes C M

Thanks, Celtic.
The HW was easily resolved with earlier advice, and I can’t believe I did not think of it - but I think I was a little stressed. Just a shame it took two days to sort it, but lesson learned.

We have now arrived back home, and there appears to be no issues with the brakes, ( only an hours drive but long enough to reveal anything, hopefully) although I assume that I have added some “mileage” to the pads.

And , yes, preparation is key. But time is st a premium and I thought I had it ready “to go” with a phone call. I just did not realise that it would not be instant cover - the 2nd firm was.

I used to be very organised, but now find that navigating everything online is something of a mission, and one can never ask a question if a human - and bots response’ are often to general to be of any use.
