Hello everybody, have nt been around for awhile, hope everybody is ok? Since l was last online have just brought a subaru forester xe, no towbar on it at moment saving money to get one put on. Was wondering if anybody else tows with a forester, what are they like with a caravan on the back? Also any suggestions on what type of towbar to get eg fix or removable? Any help would be grateful. Cant help with the tow bar sorry, but we had one a few years back as a hire car supplied by insurance company when I had a 3.0 litre petrol Shogun Sport which was off the road, Gee I thought the shogun was thirsty!! The subaru should have come with it's own petrol station, dont know if yours is petrol or diesel but if petrol stay close to home  ;)

We have been driving Subarus now for over 20 years, the last 2 were both 2 litre petrol engine and are excellent tow vehicles. (nothing ever goes wrong with them!)

Our current version is a 2 litre Forester ( AWD) and we can't fault it as a tug.

My wife uses it for towing a horse trailer across muddy fields and its also used for the caravan. We often visit Exmoor, Porlock, Countisbury etc and they hold no terrors, the Forrester always has an abundance of power reserves and the gearing is first class ( there's low ratio as well if you fancy using it to tow your van up otherwise impossible terrain..... impossible that is for "ordinary" vehicles)

In the snow they are superb as well... we really cant fault them...although Gagakev is right they can be a tad thirsty on petrol but not a huge difference really from lesser cars ( we get around 25mpg or so when towing fully loaded and about low 30's when solo.
Max tow weight is 2 ton and we often see them on Exmoor) loaded to the max or sometimes beyond!... its doesn't seem to slow them down at all.

We tend to do things by the book... and are well impressed, we haven't seen anything so far that even compares with the Forester...
Usual disclaimers etc
Happy caravanning

Hi paws, thanks for your letter , got the forester because l always wanted one and l do want to tow a caravan with it when l get the towbar on it. Also love driving it and at the moment just driving it to work lm doing about 165 miles on about £25 of petrol. Like you also like subaru"s, weve got an x reg legacy brought to tow the caravan, a bailey ranger 470/4 tows it no problem but back end always looks low so l want something a bit higher.
So once again thanks, Gary.
