As a Subaru fan and a lifeline caravanner I have to say I disagree with some of Motty's negatives. Subaru have never been about cheap, but their purchase price has always given value for money. We had our first GLF-5 in 1983 and it was very well equipped and better priced than lower specced Cavalier, Sierra and Montego. It was not an economical tow car then but it was a good towcar. We then proceeded to have 3 of the L series and two Legacy's before I left home. Each got progressively better engines and became better at towing duties. It was never about the money but the experience and sound of the flat 4 boxer engine and a well equipped car that was not cheap but value for money. Towing economy was never a strong point but capability solo performance out weighed that easily. It looks like the same story today. If they made a big enough and heavy enough brute to tow my van I would still be loyal to the brand but as it is I'll just have to make do with the next best thing with the Isuzu.
