Hi all need some advice, I have a crystal maxi 2 water pump that has packed up I am looking for a replacement I was astonished to see the price of them almost £60, but I have seen other types with the same plug in fitment for far less namely whale pumps these are around £20 cheaper, do I have to replace like for like? or could I get away with a cheaper type? my van is a sterling elite explorer. just a thought,if everything is ok at the connection end in to the van why not just buy another pump of similiar or better flow rate,this is what I did this season with my Whale pump which packed up because the impellar locks up through limescale,easy job but eliminate any problem at the van connection end first,good luck.
I think you would need to check the output of the cheaper pump as it could be lower and give a poor flow. The dealer might know but I have always stuck with the make fitted even though it might cost more in some cases.

You are not restricted to just a crystal pump. Almost any submersible pump designed for a caravan should do, but it would be advisable to find one that at least matches the flow rate of your existing pump.
You should be able to replace just the pump. to make things easier, when removing the old pump from the dual pipe, tie a piece of string to the wire end, and as you pull the wire out it pulls the string through which you can use to pull the new pumps wire back up the pipe.

yes spot on John, when my pump packed in I went to the accessory shop for a replacement in the bargain bucket was a new pump complete but it had a obsolete van connector I simply changed the van connector to the old one. job done was exactly the same pump.ProfJohnL said:
