Had any one got one of those, we went to our caravan dealer and brought two towing mirror, we said to him not sure that they will stay on, He said I will put them on your car and you will see how you get on with them we was gone for agood 20 minute and there was a very little vibration depent on the state of the road, other than that it was good, so we brought them, Have you got one of those and are you please with it? Any towing mirror that attaches to the existing mirror glass rather than its housing puts extra load on the mechanism for which it was never designed. This could result in premature failure of the electric motor of the mirror and its adjustment mechanism. For this reason, I don't think they are a very good idea.

Besides, the foot of the 'suck-it & see' mirror obliterates at least part of the vision area in the standard mirror, rendering that virtually useless. I don't know whether the 'suck-it & see' mirror is type approved (the manufacturer's website makes no mention of type-approval), but if it isn't, this would make it illegal.

Hi Trevor,

I have a pair of these mirrors and used them since getting the caravan about 15 months ago.

I have to say that I like them although I do agree with Lutz in that they do stress the mechanism. The offside mirror does seem to vibrate more now, although it is very slight and you don't notice it when you don't have the mirror attached.

I've been trying to think of a way to alleviate the stress on the mechanism and if I come up with anything I'll let you know.

Personally I don't have a problem with the 'Suck it and See' mirror obscuring the normal one as it is the extra one I use. The whole point of using them is the greater view they give compared to the car ones. Once you have got used to it you don't bother with the car one anyway as its full of caravan!

Out of all the mirrors I tried these were by far and away the best for stability and also the easiest to fit but do be mindful of the additional stress it can put on the mechanism.

One other thing, I have never had one of the mirrors fall off, even in quite strong gales but do make sure that the mirror surface is dry before putting them on, otherwise they can slip.

Hope this helps

Regards

steve

Hmmm,

I don't think that for one second they are illegal.

Just because they don't put it on their website doesn't suggest that they may be illegal (at least not to me). It just means that they don't put it on their website.

As I can't get to the mirrors at the moment I have emailed Pyramid Products and asked them about Type Approval.

I'll post their reply when I get it.

I just looked on the Milenco website. There is nothing about Type Approval on their site either. So does that mean that their mirrors may be illegal as well.

Regards

Steve

OMG! The country is going to the dogs, what with shootings, stabbings and now people using possible "illegal" towing mirrors!

Bring back the birch! Bring back hanging!!!!!!

So long as towing mirrors don't obscure vision in the standard mirrors (which are always type approved) I don't necessarily see a problem. However, if they do, as in the case of the "suck-it & see" mirrors, rearward field of vision may not meet the requirements prescribed by Regulations 71/127/EEC or UNECE R46.

I used to have some strap on ones and they 'obscured' the field of vision! I have got the new Suck-it-and-sees and I think they are great! Best ones I've ever used - quick to attach and no wobble!
