We've stayed at all three and liked them all for different reasons.
Craigie Gardens - within the grounds of the college and very peaceful yet only a short walk from the centre of Ayr. Toilets etc are usual CC high standard. Lots to do in the area- Culzean Castle and Country Park is a must plus all the Burns stuff. There is a weekend market on the racecourse carpark which can be quite interesting. Lots of golf courses around too. We've not eaten out much in Ayr as we have family there.
Bunree - again a lovely quiet site at the edge of Loch Linnhe. Toilets etc are usual CC high standard. Lots of hillwalking in the area, Glencoe is not too far away and the gondola on Aonach Mor has spectacular views on clear days. The cafe at the top served good food at reasonable prices when we were there a few years ago. Neptunes Staircase in Fort William is quite a feat of engineering - it's a series of locks on the western end of the Caledonian Canal.
Maragowan - same again, nice site on the riverbank and only a short walk into Killin with shops and nice restaurants. A good area for hill-walkers and the site has a drying room for wet walking gear.
Hi lyn, agree with the above post re Craigie gardens although we found Culzean to be very expensive to visit, try and get a pitch on the toilet block side of the site to take advantage of any sunshine you may get.
If you suffer from midge bites lyn be aware of Killin and the surrounding area, it's alive with the ******s.
I'm not too sure of Bunree though, by the time we had got there after stopping at Luss there was no room left to bite so they was biting my bites :O(
And don't believe those who say they don't come out in the rain. While packing up it was pouring but the *****s were still dive bombing me and sticking to my wet skin.
You might be lucky like Her Ladyship, she never had one bite, they don't go for bad meat :O)
